Background:
BioCarbon Partners (BCP) is an African-registered and headquartered REDD+ development and management social enterprise. BCP is currently implementing the USAID-funded Community Forests Program (CFP) which targets Lusaka, Eastern and Muchinga provinces.  BCP’s vision is to implement the highest possible certified Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) Projects in Africa through exceptional community benefits in partnership with Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) and other government agencies. BCP is seeking services of Monitoring and Evaluation Assistants to be based at Rufunsa, Nyimba and Mfuwe Offices for a period of 3 to four months with possibility of becoming permanent staff.
Position Overview:
The Monitoring and Evaluation Assistants will be key M&E staff at CFP sites responsible for facilitating the implementation of CFP M&E activities and enforcing M&E system policies and guidelines. Specifically, the monitoring and evaluation assistants will facilitate migration of CFP M&E system from paper-based systems to the new CFP digital data collection and aggregation platform. Further, the M&E assistants will be responsible for ensuring that CFP Community Engagement Team are complying the Program M&E guidelines and protocols and lead the compilation of CFP quarterly and annual reports. Monitoring and Evaluation Assistants will report to the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities:
Monitoring and Evaluation Activities
  • Assist in migrating all CFP monitoring data from the paper-based system to the digital platform
  • Collect all Program Monitoring paper-based file and ensure original copies are sent and filed at CFP Head Office while copies remain well ordered and filed at data originating site
  • Provide technical support to Community Engagement Team (Community Engagement Managers, Officers and Mobilisers) in operating the CFP digital data collection platform
  • Lead the site compilation of M&E quarterly reports, indicator tables and narratives
  • Maintain records of program and project data, lessons learned, and best practices and share with all concerned
  • Carry out internal systematic site based data quality assessments, document findings, make and implement recommendation
  • Conduct systematic and routine M&E field visits and review program implementation methodologies, document success stories, identify gaps and make recommendation on how to bridge identified gaps
Build Monitoring and Evaluation Capacity
  • Facilitate monitoring and evaluation capacity building for project and program implementers to enable program teams to monitor and evaluate their own efforts; gather relevant data and produce relevant reports as it relates to these efforts
  • Build the Capacity of site CFP Community Engagement Team to understand and use the CFP digital routine Program Activity Monitoring Form
  • Build capacity of site CFP Community Engagement Team to operate the CFP digital data collection devices
  • Build the capacity of CFP Community Engagement Managers, Community Engagement Officers and Mobilisers to ensure the collection of relevant and appropriate data for reporting to USAID Zambia
  • Guide CFP staff and implementing partners in understanding key CFP indicators and ensure activities being implemented on the ground are contributing to the achievement of CFP key performance indicators
  • Build capacity of site CFP Community Engagement Team in record making and filing
  • Perform any other duties as duties as assigned by the CFP Monitoring and Evaluation Manager as well as Site Community Engagement Coordinator
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Experience working in monitoring and evaluation (e.g. developing and operationalisation monitoring and evaluation systems and frameworks). Knowledge of USAID monitoring and evaluation systems is an added advantage
  • Experience operationalising digital data collection devices and system
  • Experience in managing or supervising research and routine monitoring data collection projects
  • Excellent report writing and documentation skills
  • Research and analytic skills
  • Experience writing reports
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to pay attention to detail
Desired candidates should be living in Eastern Province and should be willing to stay in Rufunsa, Mfuwe and Nyimba. Candidates should be available immediately to fill the position. Please note that these are 3 months positions with possibility of extension.
Compensation:
